The Arizona Cardinals compete in the National Football Conference of the National Football League.  The 49ers NFC West Division rivals are the St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks.  The Cardinals Stadium, one of the newest and nicest in the NFL, is called University of Phoenix Stadium and is in Glendale, Arizona.  The stadium opened on September 10, 2006 with a seating capacity of 73,000.  Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt enters his 2nd season after completing the 2007 NFL Schedule with 8-8 record and 2nd place finish in the NFC West.  The Cardinals finish was their best since 1998, making the NFC playoffs the next goal for coaches and players.  Led by offensive stars Matt Leinart, Edgerrin James, and great young receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, the Cardinals feel ready to take that next step.            
The Cardinals have more NFL history than any other team.  The team has been making history since 1898, although it's been in multiple cities and stadiums.  The current edition moved from St. Louis in 1987, and in 1994 changed its name from the Phoenix Cardinals to the Arizona Cardinals in 1994.  Owner Bill Bidwell bought the team outright from other family members in 1972.  The Cardinals have been lead by the same family longer than only 3 other NFL teams.  The Cardinals have enjoyed 6 playoff appearances in their history.   
The 2008 season holds a lot of promise for the Cardinals, with coaches and players hoping to build on the teams 8-8 finish which included several close losses.  Whisenhunt is attempting to bring the same tough, physical mindset that was present in his former Steeler offenses.  He is expecting to see tremendous improvement from the first year to the second.
