Detroit Lions Tickets
The Detroit Lions are one of the oldest teams in NFL history, with the franchise being established in 1934. The Lions compete in the National Football Conference in the National Football league, and their NFC North Division rivals are the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, and Chicago Bears. The Lions home stadium is the beautiful Ford Field in Detroit Michigan, which opened in 2002 with a seating capacity of 64,500. The Lions are led by head coach Rod Marinelli who enters his 3rd season. Marinelli's Lion's wrapped up the 2007 NFL schedule with a 7-9 record and 3rd place finish in the NFC North. The upstart Lions began the year at 6-2, but ended the season disappointed losing 7 of 8. Making a run towards and through the NFC Playoffs will be dependent on great production from the Lions star players: Jon Kitna, Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson, and Ernie Sims.
Owner William Clay Ford has witnessed many of the frustrating years the Lions have experienced, having owned the team since 1964. The Lions had a great run during the 1950's, being League Champions in 1952, 1953, and 1957. Those 3 titles were added to the 1932 League Championship. The Lions did enjoy success in the 1990's, led by the Barry Sanders Show. The Lions won their first playoff game since 1957 in 1991 when they defeated the Cowboys. In total, the Lions made the playoffs 6 out of 10 years, which remains the most successful decade in team history.
In 2008, the Lions will feature a new offensive coordinator in Jim Coletto, who previously served as the Lions Offensive Line coach. The Lions look to build off the impressive 6-2 start from the 2007 season, finishing the year as strongly as they began it. The Lions will add talent and depth through free agency and through the 2008 NFL Draft. The Lions hope to be as successful with this year's first round pick as they were with last year when they selected Ernie Sims, who finished 4th in the NFL with 134 tackles.
