The Carolina Panthers compete in the NFC South Division of the National Football League. They play their home games at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Panthers stadium has a seating capacity of 73,298. The Panthers main National Football Conference rivals are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and New Orleans Saints, and this division represented the NFC in the 2003 and 2004 Super Bowls. The Panthers Head Coach is John Fox, and is entering his 7^th season as an NFL head coach. Fox and his Panthers squad completed the 2007 NFL schedule with a 7-9 record and a 2^nd place finish in the NFC South. Every NFL team has to deal with injuries, but the Panthers were severely damaged when star player Jake Delhomme was hurt in week 3, requiring elbow ligament surgery. The Panthers have been hampered by injuries the last few years on both sides of the ball. A return to the playoffs will mean healthy years from star players Delhomme, Steve Smith, Julius Peppers, and Deangelo Williams.

The Panthers are owned by Jerry Richardson, Wofford College graduate and only the 2^nd former player to own an NFL team, joining George Halas. The franchise was established in 1995, and played their first season at Clemson University's Memorial Stadium, one of the best stadiums in the entire country. The Panthers made it to the NFC Championship game in just their second season, a nearly unheard of accomplishment for an expansion team. They would win the NFC Conference Championship game in 2003, and lose to the Patriots in the Super Bowl 32-29, on a last second field goal. In just a few short years, the Panthers have accomplished more than teams who have been around for far longer, and established a mindset for their players and fans that they expect to be an annual contender.

After consecutive seasons without making the playoffs, the Panthers are very eager to return to the postseason. Carolina has been very aggressive in free agency, adding depth along the offensive line and at wide receiver. Mushin Muhammad returns to the Panthers after a couple years away, while long time Panthers Dan Morgan and Kris Jenkins will be playing elsewhere next season. The Panthers, who have a history of productive picks in the NFL draft, will have 10 selections in 2008, including the 13^th overall selection.
